Last word was no update on the condition of a critically injured  Mattawa man, who was thrown from his car in a violent Desert Aire crash a few days ago.

Grant County Sheriff's officials now say alcohol was a factor in the accident that ejected 23-year-old David Chiprez from his 2002 Mercedes. He was driving west on Edgewater Way, near Orchard in Desert Aire when he lost control.

His car slid off the road, striking an in-ground PUD transformer. The car rolled, ejecting Chiplez with enough force that he hit the side of a nearby house. He was airlifted in critical condition to Kadlec Regional Medical Center. An update on his condition is not known.

Deputies now say the crash started a small brush fire, which was quickly put out. According to officials Chiprez was NOT wearing his seat belt.
