More Information Released About Student With Gun at Kennewick School
More information is out now about the 16-year-old who was arrested following the discovery of a gun in his backpack at a Kennewick school Tuesday.
The student was arrested at Legacy High School on 10th Ave. Tuesday
Back on April 15th, a group of teens ages 13-16 was walking near Rainier and 27th, on the sidewalk not far from Yokes.
They told Police two men approached them, chased them, and fired a gun at them. One 16-year-old teen was hit in the arm, and taken to an area hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.
As police investigated this incident, they also looked into the group of teens. As the investigation progressed, evidence developed indicating the 16-year-old who was arrested Tuesday might have been in possession of a firearm. Police have not directly said the boy who was arrested was one of the group fired at.
Police contacted faculty at Legacy High School
Police arrived Tuesday mid-morning at the alternative education KSD school and were able to contact and remove the student without alerting the rest of the student population.
Police said Wednesday the firearm found in the student's backpack was stolen but did not elaborate more. He is facing three charges, 2nd Degree Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, and Possession of a Firearm on School Property.
The investigation is continuing.
