According to medical authorities, the victim never regained consciousness, and died early Monday morning.

Sunday morning, 37-year-old Steven Cain of Pendleton was driving with two other vehicles on East Bingham Road in Umatilla County, when his Jeep abruptly left the road, sped at least 50 feet down an embankment, striking a tree head - on.

Cain was found unconscious by his friends in the other two vehicles, he was wearing a seatbelt.  He was taken to a nearby hospital, but never woke up.

Authorities did not specifically release the exact nature of his injuries, only to say he suffered several head injuries and trauma.   The road was covered in snow and ice at the time.
