Perhaps once and for all the fate of Vista Field will be decided. Two years ago, the Port of Kennewick decided to keep Vista Field open after hearing numerous comments (on both sides) from citizens and business leaders in the Tri-Cities. But it cannot be ignored that the airfield is losing a considerable amount of money annually.

That's why the Port of Kennewick has commissioned Duany Plater Zyberk and Co., a Portland consulting firm, to do an in-depth analysis of the issue. Should the Port keep it open with improvements or close it and redevelop the area. The $225,000 study will examine a variety of options.

Some argue limited use of the field is draining money. Others, such as Pacific Cataract and Lazer Institute, use the field for business with incoming and outgoing airplanes needed for logistical reasons. UPS also uses the field to ship out freight from its distribution center.

Officials believe the city and Port don't have good numbers to accurately portray the real picture, hence the study to determine what to do. Once the study is finished, the public see the information, and a public vote to decide its fate are probably. What are your thoughts? Take our poll.
