Less than six hours after the incident occurred, Kennewick Police apprehended a suspect.

Around 4:55pm, a man approached the victim in the parking lot of the Desert Villa Apartments in the 600 block of South Washington street, and demanded she give him money. When the elderly 70-year-old woman said she didn't have any, the suspect stabbed her then fled.

The injury was not life-threatening, the woman is being treated at an area hospital. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, young, about 5'5" tall and wearing grey pants and hoodie. A K-9 search was unable to locate him.

But then hours later, Kennewick Police reported the investigation led to the development and arrest of a suspect. A 16-year-old male was taken into custody at a home near Gum St. and 10th Ave. around 9:30pm.
