The Tri City Americans Tuesday announced their Captain for the 2020-2021 season, and the Assistant Captains. They're the ones with the "AC" lettering on their jersey. (image courtesy Tri City Americans).

Luke Zazula, a former Kamloops Blazer draft pick in 2015 who joined the team in November 2019, has been selected as the 32nd captain in team history.

His impact on the team was immediate according to the Americans informational release:

"Zazula’s tenure with the Americans has been short but impactful. In just 37 games with the Americans last season, he led the team’s defensemen in scoring with five goals and 16 assists and was named Defensive Player of the Year."

Joining him as Assistant Captains will be Connor Bouchard, Mitchell Brown and Sasha Mutala. Bouchard is a fan favorite, with 19 goals in his 3 previous seasons and a fearless motor people love.

Brown is a steady defenseman who's logged 137 games with the team. His presence was missed when he was out half of the 2019 season due to an injury. He's one of the backbones of the D.

And Sasha Mutala exploded into an offensive threat during the last complete season, and came to fuition when he was selected in the 2019 NHL draft, 140th overall, by the Colorado Avalanche.

The Americans will open their season Thursday at home vs. the Portland Winterhawks. Pregame will rol at 6:45PM on Newstalk870AM, FM 98.7  as we again carry the SWX TV simulcast with Craig West behind the mic.  Road games will feature Craig West and be radio and streaming only via Newstalk870.am, and on our Mobile App.
