(AP) — Former wrestling star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson said he has acquired the XFL. The 48-year-old actor made the announcement on Twitter. Reportedly the price is $15 million. The XFL had eight franchises and played five games out of a planned 10-game schedule before canceling the remainder of its season in March because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is exciting news, because honestly, the league was pretty well received by fans and TV audiences when it debuted.  The player mics, live coach play calls etc. made it fun. Their kickoff idea ( teams team yards apart on 45-40 yard lines and nobody can block til return man catches the ball) still provided excitement but cut down in injuries. We BET the NFL will tweak and implement that.

IT was a raw, refreshing, purist alternative to the overthought and stuffy NFL.  We hope it comes back!
