To help alleviate the billion dollar shortfall in Washington State's budget,  School Superintendents are pushing for a shorter school year.

Other states have done this...California has dropped from 180 to 175 days two years ago to save money; Oregon allows financially strapped districts to utilize a 4 day school week.   Educations claim shortening the calendar is better to save money than cutting budgets or programs.  They say it allows more flexibility for the local districts on how to utilize the money they have .   No word was given on whether state officials believe this will help, or if it will actually happen.
