For anyone who loves animals, Wednesday is going to be your day!

February 20 is National Love Your Pet Day. No, it's not a corporate creation done by companies who manufacture pet toys, or food.

According to holidayscalendar.com,  the exact origin of the day is not known, or at least nobody can 'pin' exclusive ownership of the event. It appears it began to be celebrated on a widespread scale in the early 2000's. It's possible it grew out of some sort of animal or pet promotion.

Regardless, it's observed by thousands of pet owners across America. According to holidayscalendar.com, in 2017 Americans spent over $70 million on various products for their pets. As for which pets are the most popular, and estimated 60 million households own at least one dog, 47 million own a cat, 12 million own some sort of freshwater fish, and 8 million have some sort of bird or birds.
