Where’s the Haze Coming From in our Forecast, Weather?
According to our weather experts, we're expecting some hazy skies along with our heat the next few days.
Where's the haze and smoke coming from?
According to wasmoke.blogspot.com, there are a number of fires burning just east of us, especially in Idaho. The site it a collaboration of local, state and federal agencies who provide smoke and fire data for regions of the country. It includes how weather moves the smoke around, and what's in store for the future.
As you can see in the image taken from Monday morning, there are a number of fires burning near Lewiston, Idaho, and some in the Umatilla National Firest in extreme Southeastern WA.
There's also some fires in Asotin County, near Asotin WA, on the west side of Lewiston.
Some weather patterns are pushing, or will push some smoke drift our way, an occurrence that's not unusual this time of year.
It's interesting to note that satellite images cannot decipher how close smoke is to the ground, only that it's over an area. In this image below, Kennewick-Tri-Cities is dead center, and you can see a little cluster of fires to the east. Those are the fires in Idaho and SE WA state.
It's hoped the haze will clear by later in the week.
