You may have heard stories that Walmart was going to stop ordering ammunition. The story even reportedly made its way to CNN, and has been blown all over the net. The website Investment Watch ran a story, as did CNS News, that the world's largest retailer was allegedly going to stop ordering ammunition until the issue with the 2nd Amendment is resolved.

That refers to the many stories and reports about the Obama administration's Gun Task Force headed by VP Joe Biden that was meeting with various groups to gather ideas of how to deal with gun violence. The rumors have been fueled by comments made by Obama at a White House press conference Monday where he said he had not ruled out using executive orders to deal with guns:

I'm confident that there are some steps we could take that don't require legislation, that are within my power.

The Investor Watch story centers around a reported encounter where the blogger was told Walmart was not going to order more ammunition and was only going to sell what was on the shelves and at their distribution centers until the gun issues were resolved. The blog claimed a phone call to Walmart's corporate consumer line repeated the same statement.

However, Newstalk 870 placed phone calls to the Walmart stores in Tri-Cities as well as the 1-800 number. We were told ammunition can still be ordered locally. The operator we spoke with at the corporate number said they had been swamped with calls about this story, and they had been told nothing about Walmart discontinuing ammunition sales or orders. The information we got from our own investigation indicates this appears to be a piece of bad information.

If you'd like to hear for yourself, you may call 1-800-925-6278. Upon answer, choose option 2, then option 1 and then 1 again and you should reach a live operator.
