After over two decades, the Yakima City Council is considering a possible reversal on the ban.

Currently,  Section 6-18 of the Yakima City Code forbids residents from owning one of the breed, and many people have been requesting the city reconsider.

Supporters say the dogs have received a bad image from improper care, training and handling.  The city has not set a specific date for what it is calling a study session in November.

Pit Bulls are considered in Pasco and Kennewick to be "potentially dangerous" by city codes, and require a $25 permit to own one.  Richland has no limits on pit bull ownership. Besides Pasco and Kennewick,  18 other cities have similar restrictions.

Pit bull ownership is also banned in Otherllo, Selah and Wapato.
