10 Natural Sunburn Remedies

As people got toasted at our boat race party they began to forget sunscreen and got “toasted”! It’s a familiar story! One friend said, “Don’t worry, the burn will turn into a tan while I sleep” — yeah right! So let’s share our sunburn remedy suggestions

1. Milk

Soak gauze in cool milk and layer it on your burn.

2. Potato juice.

Either thinly slice potatoes and layer them onto your burn or blend the potatoes and soak gauze or cotton balls in the juice.

3. Drink more water

To heal damaged skin your body needs lots and lots of water. Drink twice as much as normal.

4. Aloe Vera

Apply liberally!

5. Tea

Boil tea bags and mint leaves for an hour, then let it cool, then refrigerate. Soak gauze in the cool tea and apply to skin.

6. Oatmeal Bath

Put uncooked oatmeal in a tube sock, then throw it in a cool bath to soak. Walgreens and RiteAid also sell a powder derived from oatmeal you can just sprinkle in your bath.

7. Plain, Probiotic Yogurt

I won’t be ever trying this one, but apparently the probiotics in yogurt can help heal skin. I think this is a 2nd day, 3rd day treatment to speed healing, not relieve pain. Although, if milk is soothing, yogurt may work as well.

8. Cucumber

Chilled, sliced cucumber can relieve sunburn. For best results, blend into a paste and add cornstarch and aloe vera! Then spread onto skin!

9. Apple Cider Vinegar

There is scientific basis for everything shared thus far, but apple cider vinegar has grandma’s approval. Spritz it on to the burnt skin with a spray bottle.

10. Cornstarch or Baking Soda

Mix cool water with cornstarch or baking soda and soak it in gauze to apply to skin.
