California Winemaker Buys Brand from Bankrupt Tri-Cities Pacific Rim Winery

The purchase will not involve Pacific Rim's holdings, property or equipment, but its brand or identity.

Earlier this year, citing changing consumer tastes, and decreasing shipments to its parent holder, Pacific Rim filed Chapter 11 and will liquidate all assets related to its operations at 8111 Keene Road in West Richland.

Pacific Rim, founded in 1992 in California, moved to West Richland in 2007, and operated from its present location.  Then later, they sold 90 percent of the company to the Banfi Wine family.  The label was known, according to the Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business, for its Silver Raven, Thick Skinned and Rainstorm lines, as well as its own Pacific Rim label.

WarRoom Cellars purchased the brand, in the wine industry a brand is the commercial identity, label name and market identity and reputation attached to a winemaker based on what they produce.

WarRoom officials said they plan to reunite with another line, Bonny Doone, who has previous connections to both wineries.

WarRoom will not be assuming the physical property or assets of Pacific Rim, those will be sold to satisfy creditors.  According to the March court papers, Pacific Rim cited assets and debts in excess of $10 million. It also at that time has six employees, and weekly payroll of $50K.  Court papers indicate WarRoom will not take possession of Pacific's physical assets.

The winery will also sell off all remaining wine inventory as part of its bankruptcy.
