It will probably be a heated discussion in Olympia.

On Jan. 31 the public will be able to attend a public hearing for HB1044, the Abortion Insurance Mandate Bill. It will be held in the John L O'Brien Building House Hearing Room B at 8 a.m.

The Health Care and Wellness Committee will be discussing this controversial bill, outlined below, courtesy of The Family Policy Institute of Washington:

'The abortion insurance mandate bill would require insurance on citizens to cover abortions. Anyone buying a maternity insurance plan would be forced to buy additional coverage that would cover the abortion of the pregnancy. Every business would have to buy it for their employees.'

The Family Policy Institute is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that lobbies for public policy and legislation that recognizes the significance and sanctity of the family in Washington state.

Legislators who are pushing HB1044, and its senate companion SB 5009, claim the federal Affordable Care Act -- Obamacare -- does not require insurance companies to cover abortions. That's why they are pushing this piece of legislation.
