Officials at the Two Rivers Correctional facility in Umatilla, OR have launched an investigation into the death earlier this week of a 70-year-old inmate.

Thursday evening George Philip Murphy Jr. was in the prison infirmary, and was found by staff during a check to be unresponsive.  Attempts were made to resuscitate him, and paramedics were called, but he was pronounced dead just after 7pm.

Murphy had been serving a sentence on a sexual penetration charge out of Coos County, Oregon, and entered the facility in September, 2004.  His earliest possible release date would have been February 27, 2017.

Officials said in all such prison deaths, investigations are conducted.  No further information was released.
