Kennewick police attempted to pull over a man driving a stolen car this morning, but he fled, leading officers on a chase up Volland Street (behind WinCo).

The man was eventually stopped by spike strips near Klamath Avenue, then pointed a gun at his head before pointing it at officers. Police opened fire, hitting him.

He is reportedly at Trios Health Center (formerly Kennewick General Hospital) but no word on his condition.

Reports indicated he pointed the gun at officers after abandoning the car due to the spike strips, then ran into a nearby apartment before re-emerging. He allegedly pointed the gun again, and was shot.

The shooting occurred near North Volland and Klamath Streets.

Police blocked off a wide perimeter during the incident; cars were detoured as far away as North Arthur Street and Metaline by Kamiakin High School.

One of our Newstalk Facebook friends provided photographs of the incident. KPD wasn't letting anyone near the scene.
