Pasco Police return fire after man fires at them during a struggle

According to Commander Aaron Clem of the Kennewick Police Department, the Special Investigations Unit, or SIU, has been requested by Pasco PD due to an officer-involved shooting.

According to information released by Klem, around 11:42 PM, Pasco officers responded to the Lakewood Trailer Park, located at 1505 South Rod 40 East, for a report of a disturbance. When they arrived at the trailer, they heard sounds from inside the unit.

The park is located just over a mile southeast of the main part of Pasco, and southwest of Highway 12 towards Walla Walla, it's near the Snake and Columbia Rivers.

Clem said after making initial verbal contact, the officers opened the door and saw an armed man struggling with a woman.

Clem says after initial contact, the man pointed his gun at the officers and fired. One Pasco officer responded, says Klem, with deadly force and returned fire.

Officers retreated as the man kept firing his gun, then opened the door again when the man stopped shooting. Inside the trailer, they found the man and woman had both sustained gunshot wounds. Police were able to take and man into custody without further incident.

Officers began to render first aid, which was taken over by Pasco EMS. The man and woman, both adults, were then taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center, then airlifted outside of our area to another treatment center.

Both are in critical condition. The SIU will be handling the investigation, and no one from the Pasco PD will be involved, per WA State laws regarding this kind of matter.
