A huge facility at the Hanford Nuclear Site is needing to be cleaned up and a new report says that the longer the facility remains standing, it's potential to release radiation into the atmosphere gets even more risky.

The Plutonium Uranium Extraction Plant, built in 1956, is heavily contaminated and the longer it goes without being torn down, brings a chance that a potential radiation leak could be released.

The plant clean up isn't scheduled to be addressed until 2032.

The Department Of Energy says that a $218 million hazard cleanup is the best option until the plant can be fully demolished. The new evaluation was provided by the DOE.
