Pasco Narrows Council Search to 4 Candidates

May 31st. Pasco City Councilwoman Nikki Torres surprised a number of people by resigning her position she'd only held since the last election (2021).

Torres had moved to another District in town

Torres relocated to a new home in Pasco, but it was outside of the District she represented, District 3 (northern and some eastern part of town). She also indicated she was running for the 16th District State Senate Seat that will be vacated by the retiring Jim Honeyford (who has endorsed her campaign). Torres felt it best if she resigned, because she would not be living in the District she was voted into.

Now the city has announced four candidates are in the running from a number of applicants for the Council seat.

A total of 11 people applied for the position, and the final four candidates are, according to the City of Pasco:

Zulema Abastillas
Irving Brown, Sr.
Ryan Jones
Marianna Polyukh

The other seven who applied were:

Brett Knapp
Brent McGary
Jack Merrill
Leo Perales
Stephen Persons
Kate Smith
Stan Smith

Although Torre's seat does not 'run out' or expire until December 2025, by state law, the person named to the seat will also have to run again in November 2023.
