Two people are dead, three wounded after a shooting in one of Seattle's most notorious homeless encampments Tuesday night.

Police responded to reports of shots being fired around 7:20 pm near Airport Way South and South Atlantic Streets, south of Downtown Seattle. That area is known as "The Jungle", and contains a known camping area for homeless people.

Seattle Mayor Ed Murray said the area is one that has been left "unmanageable and out of control" for several decades.

Police searched a wooded area by the scene and found seven people injured. One of them, a woman, died at the scene. No information was released about the other fatality. Police did say three victims underwent surgery at Harborview Medical Center, they were identified as two women and a man. Police said they had gunshot wounds to the back, abdomen and chest.

Authorities say they are looking for two possible persons of interest, and they say they have every reason to believe the shooting was "very targeted," according to the Seattle Times.

Police don't believe the general public is in danger, as this incident appears to be directed at the homeless community.
