Situation Causes Temporary Lockdown of Pendleton Elementary School

Pendleton is not on Spring Break.

Authorities say a brief lockdown occurred at Washington Elementary in Pendleton Thursday after a nearby "situation" prompted school officials and police to take security precautions.

Authorities have not specifically said what incident prompted them to take the security measures shortly after 11 am this morning.  The reported incident occurred on nearby Southwest Byers Avenue.

The restrictions were lifted around 11:17am after police said the area was safe.   More information is expected to be released later.
