Among the people who showed up to support Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy last week was conservative state Rep. Matt Shea, R-Spokane Valley.

Shea is also among a group of legislators from Western states calling for federal lands to be handed over to states.

The Nevada episode led to a standoff between Bundy and armed supporters against agents with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. Bundy contends he doesn't have to pay grazing fees on federal land.

The Spokesman-Review reports that in Nevada, Shea declared the federal government has declared "war on rural America" with its regulations on land use.

Shea says in a video posted on YouTube that lawmakers from Washington, Idaho, Montana, Utah, Nevada and Arizona want to transfer federal land to the states.
