So much for his campaign promise to veto any new taxes. A long time ago, when Candidate Inslee was running for office, he said he thought the state budget could be balanced without tax increases. Governor Inslee has apparently come down with amnesia.
This week, Gov. Inslee turned heads when his office said he will ask for about $1 billion in new taxes when he unveils his new state budget, as the new legislative session prepares to get underway. Did he blatantly lie to voters? Read on and decide for yourself.
The Cato Institute is considered a leading political and economic expert, and they've issued some pretty tough grades for several of the nation's governors. Founded in 1977 by some of the nation's leading political and economic experts, they've given Inslee a failing grade.
It was supposed to be a win-win. People clamoring for their weed would be able to legally smoke it, the state would sell it making millions and millions in revenue, the debt would shrink, and everyone would be happy. It's not turning out that way.
In a move destined to make him even less popular with business owners and the private sector, Inslee wants to eliminate even more tax breaks. And one of them would affect the bottled water we all buy at the store.
