The Washington State Patrol is conducting the investigation into why a Richland garbage collection truck hit a home early Wednesday.

Richland police reported the home, in the 500 block of Riverstone Drive, was struck by the vehicle around 7:45am.

The damage is extensive enough that the occupants cannot live in the home anymore, at least until repairs are made.  The truck also caused extensive damage to the family's sidewalk and yard, and those of their next-door-neighbor.

Authorities didn't release any other specifics about the crash, how fast the truck was moving or other details. They did say the driver is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
