Next Wednesday a rally is planned in the Tri-Cities to coincide with a massive march on Washington D.C.

The Tea Party Patriots plan to hold what they are calling a peaceful demonstration across from the IRS office in Richland next Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m. to protest the recent allegations the IRS has deliberately targeting conservative groups and denying many of them tax-exempt status, as well as other abuses.

The national, regional and local events are being called "Audit the IRS." Citizens are invited to attend, regardless of their political affiliation, and urged to bring their own signs reading, "It's Time to Audit the IRS." The Tri-Cities TEA Party said in a release Wednesday their local protest will take place at the same time a national rally occurs on the West Lawn of the White House and at the Capitol Building in D.C.

They emphasize it's a peaceful protest, designed to call attention to the abuse of power by the IRS.   The Tri-Cities rally will take place at 825 Jadwin Ave, across from the local IRS location, from noon-2pm.   The local TEA Party chapter release included this line from testimony delivered in Washington D.C. to the House Ways and Means Committee who are investigating the IRS allegations.

Becky Gerritson of the Wetumpka, Alabama TEA Party told the Congressional Panel:

“We are patriotic Americans. We peacefully assemble. We petition our government. We exercise our right to free speech and we don’t understand why our government tried to stop us. We aren’t here as serfs or vassals. We’re not begging our lords for mercy. We are born free American citizens and we’re telling our government that you’ve forgotten your place. It’s not your responsibility to look out for our well being and monitor our speech. It’s not your right to assert an agenda. The post that you occupy exists to preserve American liberty. You’ve sworn to perform that duty and you have faltered.”
