The Tri City Americans announced Wednesday Forward Braden Purtill (purr-TELL)  has been traded to the Red Deer Rebels, in exchange for a 3rd. Round pick in the 2017 WHL Bantam (entry-level) draft.

Purtill, who hails from Winnipeg, Manitoba, was in his third season with the team, and scored 11 goals and 10 assists in 111 career games. He was originally drafted by the Americans in the 3rd. round of the 2012 WHL Bantam selection process.

GM Bob Tory said the move will allow the Americans to get their numbers down and provide valuable ice time for their younger players, and it will give Purtill a chance to compete for the 2015-16 Memorial Cup, as Red Deer is the host city.

Under WHL rules, the city hosting the championship of the Canadian Hockey League receives an automatic berth in the four team tournament, along with the champions of the Western, Ontario, and Quebec Major-Junior Leagues.
