Authorities Seeking Answers In Shocking Fatal Oregon Crash
Officials are still seeking answers after a fatal crash killed a North Dakota woman between Pendleton and Athena, OR Tuesday on Highway 11.
Around 1:14 pm 27-year-old Kalli Rae Thompson was northbound towards the Washington state border when her 2008 Explorer abruptly veered into the southbound lane, sideswiping a large truck and trailer driven by 39-year-old Dmitriy Ryabchinskiy of Vancouve,r WA. That impact tore the rear wheels off the truck, and sent Thompson's vehicle off the southbound shoulder, where it rolled on it's top.
Thompson was partially ejected in the crash, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Hazmat teams responded to the crash as well, to clean up over 50 gallons of diesel fuel that was spilled and scattered from the crash. A second semi-truck also southbound, struck some debris from the Explorer. Neither Ryabchinskiy nor the other semi-driver were seriously hurt in the crash.
Authorities did not say if Thompson was wearing a seat belt, the investigation continues.
