Well, here's what happens when a great idea fails. And it was a great idea. But the plan to fix the basalt stairs at the trail head of Badger Mountain isn't working and the $40,000 to do it has been spent. Apparently, it's difficult terrain (Uh yeah, it's a mountain). And it's steep (yep, it's a mountain). The original plan was for 70 new stairs but that left a gap, so now they have to reset, re-plan and re-do and find more funding to fill the gap. The good news is that you can still hike Badger using the bypass trail.
