A broken water main in Kennewick triggered a massive wall of water that ended up making a sinkhole in a well-traveled roundabout.

Around 3:45 PM Wednesday calls began to come into 9-1-1 about water pouring through the roundabout at Center Parkway and Gage Boulevard behind the mall.

The water quickly pushed up through the asphalt and concrete, resulting in a sinkhole. Several vehicles were temporarily stuck in the area but were able to get out. No accidents or injuries resulted, but the massive water flow did a number on the road.

According to Kennewick City officials and Police, the roundabout was down to one lane but people are asked to avoid the area as it has now been closed so repairs can be made. City crews brought in heavy equipment to rip up the pavement and dirt so they could get to the waterline.

As a result of the break, a number of surrounding businesses had their water shut off after the incident.  It is believed the roundabout will be closed through the weekend until full repairs can be made.
