A large portion of the tumbleweed nightmare that actually shut down SR 240 for about 10 hours on New Year's Eve, making international news, was set ablaze in a controlled burn intermittently stalling traffic for about four hours west of Richland earlier Thursday afternoon.

WSDOT determined the burn was the quickest and most efficient way to clear out the thousands of tumbleweeds collected alongside SR 240.

Kind of anti-climactic, but it does quickly remove the potential re-living of the nightmare that was Tumblegeddon 2020.
