The total damage is not yet known, but it's expected to be extensive.
FIRE RAVAGES BUILDING IN DOWNTOWN KENNEWICK
Crews on the scene around 8 AM told us it was a two-alarm blaze, Kennewick crews responded around 5 AM to the building known as The Cascade structure, one building north of the intersection of Cascade and Kennewick Ave. downtown.
Flames were seen shooting up from the roof, crews said it breached the outside which did allow them to blast massive amounts of water down inside to beat back the flames.
THE FIRST PRIORITY WAS GETTING OCCUPANTS OUT
There are a number of apartments on the second floor of the building, they're located above Foodies eatery downstairs. No fatalities, but one person was taken to an area hospital suffering from possible smoke inhalation, but they were expected to recover.
Fire crews on the scene this morning said they are still mopping up and investigating has begun, the cause of the fire is not yet known, or has not been released yet.
According to reports from KEPR-TV the building is expected to be a total loss. Aside from the fire damage to the roof and second-floor apartments (there are six there) smoke and extensive water damage from trying to keep the flames from spreading to nearby structures.
Crews from Richland and Pasco also assisted. We expect more details soon.
