Chlorine Shortage Delays Opening Of The Prosser Aquatic Center

A chlorine shortage is delaying the opening of the Prosser Aquatic Center according to the City of Prosser.

In a press release from the City of Prosser, the Prosser Aquatic Center will not be able to open on June 18th as planned. Here are the details on the shortage according to the press release:

The City’s contract service provider Oxarc, is responsible for producing over 90% of the State’s supply and has experienced a malfunction at their production plant. City staff has reached out to providers in other states in hopes of securing chlorine from alternate sources however, those providers are also experiencing a shortage in materials. Chlorine supplies are being diverted to drinking water treatment and wastewater processing. It is unknown at this time when supplies will become available but the City anticipates being able to provide an update later next week.

At this time, sessions 1 and 2 of swim lessons starting the week of June 21st are canceled.

The City of Prosser says that participants will be notified of the change and refunds provided. Swim Team will be cancelled beginning June 17, 2021. “This is an especially heartbreaking situation, not only for our patrons but for our dedicated staff who have trained very hard to ensure a safe summer of swimming and fun at the Prosser Aquatic Center. It is our hope that the supplier is able to resume production in a timely manner so that we can get back to summer!” said Community Development Director, Steve Zetz.
