Deputies Investigating Vandalism to WW Columbus Statue
Walla Walla County Sheriff's Deputies are investigating the spray paint vandalism of a statue of Christopher Columbus that stands in front of the county courthouse.
Sometime late Tuesday night, officials say the statue, located at 315 West Main, was spray painted. Someone tagged the words "stolen land" and "genocide" on the statue.
Reports indicate security and surveillance cameras captured an image or images of the suspect just before midnight, but no other specifics were given.
This is not the first time that 'societal' or cultural vandalism has been committed in Walla Walla, similar acts of spray painting or tagging have occurred on other public historical markers in the past few years.
