Darkness was a contributing factor in an early Sunday morning fatality in Kennewick. [UPDATE]

Authorities have not yet released the name of the man who was fatally struck by an SUV while apparently crossing Kennewick Ave. near Conway Street.

Around 3:14 am police were called to the accident, where the male victim was struck by an SUV heading East on Kennewick Ave.

Police later said it was not a hit-and-run, the investigation continues. The SUV driver apparently didn't see the pedestrian in the dark.

New information released by Kennewick police Monday indicate the victim's name was William R. Pect, 65, of Kennewick. Authorities say he was not in the crosswalk at the time of the accident. He was struck by a Buick SUV, and died at the scene from extreme head and leg injuries and trauma. Officials say toxicology tests will take a few weeks.
