Kennewick Fire officials now say a late Friday night fire at a mobile home park was due to a kitchen appliance.

Crews were called to this home in the Garden Vista Park Mobile Home complex at 402 E. 10th Ave.; the complex is located between South Washington and Gum Streets just off 10th.

Upon arrival they found flames billowing from the home, fortunately all the people inside were able to safely escape. From an abundance of caution, police and fire crews evacuated nearby homes, but those people were able to safely return a short time later.

No other structures were affected.  Investigators say the cause of the fire was a kitchen appliance, which triggered the blaze and then it spread quickly out of control.

No word given as to how much damage was done to the home. Fire officials stress to people to make sure they never leave unattended food on a stove, and to make sure all appliances are working properly and safely to avoid situations like this.
