Grant County Motorcycle Jumper Dies From Crash Injuries

Evil Knievel, the legendary motorcycle stunt man, actually lived in Soap Lake for a while prior to his ascent to worldwide fame, and used to perform in the area. He would jump over buses at the Soap Lake Racetrack at a time when nobody else had tried that.

It's no coincidence that acclaimed daredevil Alex Harvill would try to break the world's record for longest jump at 351 feet on a motorcycle by doing it in Grant County, Knievel's old stomping grounds. It would have been a world's record for a dirt landing.

Wednesday afternoon, Harvill was severely injured when his motorcycle came up short as part of the Moses Lake Airshow activities. He was thrown from the bike as it crashed just prior to the landing zone.

Thursday the Grant County Coroner, by way of the Grant County Sheriff's Office, confirmed at Harvill died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the crash.

According to the reporter from KHQ TV, it appears the crash occurred during a warmup, and not the actual attempt at the record itself. Harvill had previously broken the longest jump world's record several times.
