Five people are in custody in connection with the theft of a vehicle that the owner had left running, to warm it up.

Kennewick police on patrol near Conway and Bruneau streets around 2:50 AM Friday morning came across this vehicle. It had been reported stolen a few days ago from the 5000 block of West Clearwater.

After a short 15 minute standoff, Kennewick officers arrested 33-year-old Peter Johnson, 25-year-old Joshua Devlemming, 23-year-old Jordan McCarty, 37-year-old Esmeregildo Castillo, and 37-year-old Amanda Daniel.  Most were obstruction charges, but additional charges are pending over the theft of the vehicle.

Once again, police remind people DO NOT leave your vehicle unattended to warm up, unless you have a remote starter that allows it to be run with the doors locked.
