Fire investigators are trying to determine what led to a blaze that damaged a second-story unit at the Edison Village Green Apartments Thursday afternoon.

Around 4pm, units responded to the upstairs dwelling at the complex on Edison Street, where a fire had broken out, filling the unit with thick smoke.  The entire building was evacuated while fire crews worked to bring it  under control.

Witnesses said they thought someone might be in the apartment, and that's when Irnieo Leos jumped into action. He ran up the stairs, kicked in the door,  and found the woman inside.  He said it was pretty smoky, but he was able to help assist, then carry her out.

Due to asthma, the woman apparently passed out after getting outside, but she was treated by ambulance workers at the scene and was apparently ok.

Officials say the fire and smoke damaged the unit and part of the attic.
