A Kennewick man is in TRIOS Southridge Hospital suffering from multiple injuries after trying to flee police Thursday night after an alleged theft.

Officers got a call about two suspects who allegedly stole a man's phone near the 1000 block of West 1st. The man's children said they were going to meet with the suspects, who possibly thought they would trade money for the phone. However, the victims had a gun and planned to hold the suspects til police arrived.

Then officers were told the two suspects fled the scene on bikes before they could be apprehended. One of the suspects was located near First Ave. and Beech Street, but he continued to pedal away from officers.

However, the suspect hit a curb near the old Bank Of the West building at 1st. and Washington streets and crashed hard. Despite slamming into the concrete, he continued to resist officers but was subdued.

He was taken to TRIOS Southridge ER, where it was discovered he had sustained two broken ribs and punctured lung. Upon recovery and release, he will be booked into the Benton County Jail. His identity was not released. The other suspect is still at large. A lot of work for just a stolen cellphone!
