Some voters say they understood the levy perfectly, but they voted no to get the District's "attention" on other matters.

Regardless, Kennewick Schools are planning to re-run their operational levy in April, and have planned three information sessions for the public.

Three sessions between now and April 12

The three sessions will be:

  • Thursday, March 31, 1 to 2 p.m. (Presentation is at 1:15 p.m.)
  • Tuesday, April 12, 6 to 7 p.m. (Presentation is at 6:15 p.m.)
  • Thursday, April 14, 6 to 7 p.m. (Presentation is at 6:15 p.m.)

They will take place at the KSD Admin building at 1000 W. 4th., just west of Lampson Stadium.

KSD included this information in their news release:

When Kennewick School District's proposed Replacement Educational Programs & Operations (EP&O) Levy on Feb. 8 did not pass, we surveyed our community to learn why. We listened to the feedback we received and made changes to the ballot proposal. We will ask our community to decide on the new proposal on April 26.

The margin was very close, about 51 to 49 percent. There are some voters in the community who say they voted no because they felt the District was not responsive in certain areas, including standing up more against the OSPI on matters of masks and other COVID mandates.

We will see what happens come April 26th.  A number of other area District levies including Prosser and Othello were also defeated. Kennewick voters did pass the tech levy however that was also on the ballot.
