Local Fire Chief Wants Out Year Before Retirement Because He’s Had Enough
Mike Roxbury resigned, sort of, as Umatilla Rural Fire Protection District on Sept. 1... only it isn't official because he didn't really resign. The district isn't sure what to do, but Roxbury, 50, says he's seen too much.
He told the East Oregonian newspaper that after 27 years as a paramedic he can't do one more year. Ironically, that's all he has left until the State of Oregon would allow him to retire, and then he could start a new career while receiving the payments.
He hasn't talked to many people about his decision, or his current status with the district, but he says they have been "supportive and sympathetic." A decision will be made Dec. 14.
