A cougar, also known as a mountain lion, has been spotted multiple times this week around the Badger Mountain area. Officials are warning hikers or anyone that lives in the area that the cougar could be more dangerous because of the snow making food scarce. A woman reported seeing the cougar on top of a ridge while she was hiking with friends and posted it on social media. Another man reports seeing a cougar behind him after noticing cougar tracks while hiking and having to scare it away with loud noises.

It is really rare to spot a cougar in the Tri-Cities area and the last time one was reported was 2013. They are known however to live in the Horse Haven Hills area. Officials say that if you run into a cougar and the situation turns dangerous, you should stand your ground and make lots of noise. Do not run or it could spark an attack.
