The USPS has announced the latest in their series of commemorative stamps, this one honoring a martial arts legend.

Bruce Lee Stamp Will Be Available Soon

USPS senior vice president of facilities and infrastructure Ben Kuo spoke at the unveiling event, held at the Nippon Kan Theater in Seattle on Tuesday, February 17th.

His daughter, Shannon Lee was in attendance at the event. Lee was famous in Hong Kong as a martial arts and movie star before arriving in the US, and fast becoming the biggest, and first, Asian leading man in American movies.

Bruce Was Not his Original First Name

Lee, whose Cantonese name was Lee Jun Fan, was born in November of 1940 in San Francisco. After appearing in a few movies as a child, he left for China to study varioius forms of martial arts, returning in 1959. He was given the surname Bruce at an early age, and it stuck with audiences.

His daughter said she and her entire family were greatly honored with the stamp:

“Our family is deeply grateful to the USPS for choosing to recognize Bruce Lee, and we are excited to see his kicks flying all across the country on our mail.”

Lee sadly passed at the age of 32 in 1973, after lying down, he succumbed to what was ruled as a cerebral edema. He'd lapsed into a coma. A cerebral edema is a dangerous accumulation of fluid in the brain's tissue, often leading to fatal strokes or comas.

The stamp will be a Forever stamp, always holding US First Class Value, and will be available in sheets of 20 with the USPS.
