With world leaders meeting this week in New York for the United Nations Climate Leadership Summit,  the Governors of WA, OR, CA and the Premiere of British Columbia issued statements all but guaranteeing they will pursue carbon taxes.

In 2013 Washington Governor Jay Inslee, Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber, CA Governor Jerry Brown, and Christy Clark, the Premier of British Columbia, formed what is called the Pacific Coast Collaborative.

In short, they agree with global warming, and are pushing to find ways to implement cap-and-trade and/or carbon taxes on industry. In addition, CA and B.C. have already implemented some forms of new "low-carbon" fuel standards and carbon taxes.

Carbon taxes, or cap and trade, are taxes paid by businesses, manufacturers and industry.  They're essentially a pollution penalty, levied by government.  The money would allegedly go towards fighting pollution, and the taxes are to "encourage" businesses to meet what are considered almost impossible pollution standards.

Such taxes and programs in Europe were abandoned after it became apparent they would likely sink the economy.

These leaders used the UN summit as an opportunity to release new statements pushing for carbon taxes.  Gov Inslee said in part, while blaming natural events on global warming and carbon:

"unless we act now, at a scale commensurate with the risks, the impacts of climate change will get worse, affecting every aspect of our lives, and the lives of our children."

Gov. Brown went even further, all but openly calling  for carbon taxes, or cap and trade:

"Carbon pollution kills, it undermines our environment, and, long-term, it’s an economic loser. There has to be a price on carbon, because there is a price on carbon – it’s the consequences to health, to the economy, and to our climate."

B.C. has already started what they call a "revenue neutral" carbon tax, which basically everybody pays.   PM Clark claims it's helped grow their economy and created "competitive tax rates"  -whatever that means.

Why is this important to you?  Because we now live in a state where it's not a matter of if when it comes to jacking gas prices over $1.00 per gallon and other restrictions, it just a matter of when.  That is, unless people stand up to the efforts to strangle our economy and growth.
