Oregon is considering lowering their voting age to 16 according to a new bill that is being proposed in the Oregon Legislature.

The bill is being backed by The Bus Project, an organization that encourages civic volunteerism.

The goal is to amend the Oregon Constitution to allow 16 as the official age to vote in Oregon. If the law passed, Oregon would be first state to allow a 16 year old to vote.

The proposal if passed would go to the voters in the general election in 2020. It might surprise you that 13 other states including Washington since 2003 have tried to pass a lower voting age but haven't succeeded.
