Oregon Legislature to Consider Legalizing Pot – Public Hearing Set for April

Less than three months after Washington's new pot law went into effect, Oregon will consider legalizing marijuana for recreational use. A public hearing is scheduled for next month. Much like in Washington, the Oregon measure would allow pot to be sold, taxed at a rate of $35 an ounce, and sold through state-licensed stores.

It would probably end up before voters, even if the measure were to pass. Some Oregon legislators are worried about making the price higher than the black-market rate (with taxes), which would defeat the purpose of reducing private marijuana growth, sales and consumption.

The Oregon State Sheriff's Association is against the measure. The hearing on the bill is scheduled for April 2.
