If an agreement is not reached in their contract dispute with the Pasco School District by September 1st, Pasco teachers Wednesday night approved a strike vote by a margin of 77%.

The issue is over how some $30 million in reserves is spent by the district. As heard on the Newstalk 870 Meet In The Middle program this week, teachers want about $12 million of the reserve to be spent on helping obtain more cirriculum for teachers.

The district has offered to spend $3 million. According to teachers and their representatives, many educators are having to spend extra time trying to bridge gaps in the learning tools the district possesses. Teachers say there's not enough teaching materials to help lay out the learning process needed to meet state requirements.

They also want the money spent to develop a district-wide standard plan that all the teachers at each grade level can utilize.  According to reports, teachers are often spending numerous hours creating their own lesson plans designed to fill in the gaps where the cirriculum is lacking or missing.

More negotiations are set for August 18-21st. If an agreement cannot be reached to bridge the gap between the $3 and $12 million, the teachers will strike effective September 1st.
