A similar bill was introduced during the last WA state legislative session (2019) but didn't make it out of the State House.

A pre-filed bill has been proposed for the State Senate to consider, it would require schools provide free menstrual (female hygiene) products in gender neutral and female school bathrooms.

The proposal would require them starting with 6th grade middle schools. They would be for student use only, and would also apply to charter schools.

Observers say it's not likely the bill will make it out of the Senate, especially since it contains no provisions for helping pay for the plan. The group who filed the bill suggested school districts apply for grants or partner with non-profit or community groups. The bill, if it passes, would make the changes effective beginning in the 2021-22 school year.

The legislative session begins January 13.
