Besides the billion dollar defecit, and Gregoire's gay rights bill, another proposed bill would require private insurance to pay for abortions.

In 1991 WA voters approved a measure that would require state-funded insurance to pay for abortions; this new bill would add private insurance.  Opponents of the new neasure say that's going too far.  Human Rights Of Washington spokesman Dan Kennedy says:

"For groups that promote what they call choice, to refuse to offer choice to insurance companies and those who are customers of insurance companies, is just hypocritical,”

Supporters of the bill say women who pay for insurance they have "earned" should have that right.  A provision in the bill will include a state conscience clause, allowing companies backed by religious organizations to opt out.
